Submerged arc welding wire is a type of welding material used for welding carbon steel with lower strength alloy steel.

Welding materials are composed of a combination of welding wire and flux. In submerged arc welding, the composition and properties of the weld seam are jointly determined by the welding wire and flux. The selection of submerged arc welding wire should consider both the influence of flux composition and the influence of base metal composition. To achieve the required weld metal composition, one type of flux (melted flux) can also be used in combination with several types of welding wires. One type of welding wire can also be used in combination with several types of welding flux (sintered welding flux).
